A small balloon that keeps the tract open, so the gland can heal.
The Word catheter is a minimally invasive alternative to marsupialization for Bartholin gland cysts and abscesses. It is placed through a small stab incision under local anesthesia and stays in place while a new drainage tract forms.
Stay in the office
Place it in the exam room or urgent care bay under local anesthetic. No OR booking, no general anesthesia for the patient.
Keeps draining
The inflated balloon holds the catheter in the cyst so the opening stays patent while a new duct forms, instead of sealing over after a simple I&D.
Grab one kit, done
Catheter, scalpel and syringe come together, so staff are not hunting for parts while the patient waits.
